Interviews for summer jobs at Cedar Point coming up soon

Cedar Point has started the application process for summer work opportunities.

Teens looking for summer jobs should be on their toes. This is when many companies will be looking for help, with Cedar Point, the amusement park in Ohio, being the latest.

In the next couple of weeks, park officials will be looking to fill more than 4,500 job openings for this summer’s operating season. The first round of interviews has already been held, but don’t despair. Teens still have one more shot. Open interviews are planned for March 18  and 19 at the park’s Breakers Express Hotel, 1201 Cedar Point Drive, Sandusky, Ohio. 

In order to attend, all applicants must complete an online application at www.cedarpoint.com/jobs. 

“I loved it,” said Cassidy Innes, 18, of her summer job experience at Cedar Point. It was an awesome life experience.” 

The first year she worked at the park, she was only 16, a high school freshman and although her father heads up the park’s community relations department, she had some fears.

“At first I was scared, but the people were very nice and I adapted quickly,” said Innes, who worked as a cashier for the Park Plaza gift shop her first two years, and as a ticket-taker for the Guest Services booth last year. With plans of studying culinary arts this fall, at the Art Institute of Ohio, Innes set her sights on working with Cedar Point’s Live Entertainment Division, which also has job openings for young entertainers.

Innes is hoping to be the next Rachael Ray.

Overall, more than 50 different job classifications are available. Traditional positions include ride operators and food service attendants to merchandise and game associates but the park is also looking to fill positions for an admission employee, lifeguard, marina dockhand, parking/toll attendant and room attendant, many of which qualify for college credit for an internship at many schools including hospitality management, culinary arts, recreation, marketing, communications, finance, human resources and more.

Free ride nights, is one perk

enjoyed by Cedar Point employees.

Innes said it was a great way to earn money during the summer. Besides the $2,500 she made her first year (starting wage is $7.40 per hour) there were the perks such as free ride nights and the opportunity to meet new people.

“I’ve met so many people,” said Innes. “Hungary, China, Europe, people from all over the world work at the park.” 

Other benefits include low-cost housing for employees who are at least 18 years old and live more than 30 miles from the park, on-site employee cafeteria, free uniform exchange, recreation center and an extensive employee activity program.

“It’s a ton of fun,” Innes said.
