The Motor City Java House will present a special showing of the "Detroit 1-8-7" season finale to benefit the amazing work being done by the Artist Village and Motor City Blight Busters. The March 20 event also is an opportunity for fans of the ABC TV crime drama to rally support for a second season.
"We're excited to say the least," said John George, founder of Motor City Blight Busters. "Any time we get to meet folks and show them the new 'D,' we are happy to do it. It's so important for the entire region, the city and the suburbs, to work together by tearing down crack houses and abandoned buildings. When we come together, we feel a new energy and a new spirit in Detroit."
"I want people to have a full-rounded experience when they come to Artist Village. It's a place for everyone and it brings out the art in everyone," said Alicia Marion, owner of the Motor City Java House. "I want everyone to know there is something positive going on in every pocket of the city, including northwest Detroit."
The Motor City Java House is a quirky neighborhood café that was raised from the ruins of an old building a few doors down from the historic Redford Theatre. Next to the restored coffeehouse, which prides itself on hospitality and a fabulous selection of homemade sandwiches and desserts, is the Artist Village, a community studio founded by Alicia Marion, Charles "Chazz" Miller (also founder of Public Art Workz) and the founder of Motor City Blight Busters, John George. The Artist Village features a co-workspace, gallery and huge lounge with a massive projection screen TV where the season finale of the crime drama will be aired.
In addition to the screening, guests who attend the event will be treated to a fun-filled evening featuring live music and comedy acts, food and door prizes.

This could be the last hurrah for "Detroit 1-8-7." Despite a slight rise in ratings, the gritty crime drama is facing a possible hit by TV executives.
"Sunday, ABC's 'Detroit 1-8-7' hits its first season finale, which just leaves time to send out a final distress call," said Robert Bianco in a report for USA Today. "This is not just a series that proves the broadcast networks can compete with cable when it comes to serious dramas; it's the only network series that tries in any meaningful way to deal with the real-life struggles, burdens and joys of life in our large cities. That it's set and shot in Detroit, a great mid-American metropolis that seldom gets any airtime, is just the icing on the cake."
"It's going to be great," said Lindsay Warren of Lindsay Warren Consulting, who, along with WowShane Radio and Urban Apartments, organized the event. Sponsors include Vitamin Water, American Coney Island, Better Made, Fist of Detroit Apparel and Reaver Diamonds. "Everyone who comes is going to get an attendee gift," Warren added. "And for every $10 paid, $5 goes to the Artist Village and $5 to Motor City Blight Busters."
