"Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig, who graduated from Chippewa Valley High School in 1980, has given Detroiters more to cheer about.

His summer blockbuster hit won the 2012 People's Choice Award for Favorite Comedy Movie hands down.

Wearing a black polka-dot tie and white suit jacket blinged by a hot pink pocket square - Feig stood humbly in the shadows as producer Judd Apatow (“Knocked Up,” “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”) accepted the award on everyone's behalf. However, there was no holding the comedic director back when the gang busted out into a performance of Wilson Phillips "Hold On."

“Bridesmaids,” no doubt the highest-grossing R-rated chic-comedy in Hollywood history, features Annie (Kristen Wiig), a maid of honor whose life unravels as she leads her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph), and a group of colorful bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper on a wild ride down the road to matrimony.

Her own life is a mess but when Annie finds out her best friend is engaged, she accepts the request to shoulder the duties as Lillian's maid of honor. Though lovelorn and financially hurting, Annie endures the expensive and bizarre rituals as the bridal captain. With one chance to get it perfect, Annie shows Lillian and her bridesmaids just how far a girl will go for her best friend.

Additionally, Feig's Bridesmaids (Universal Pictures, Relativity Media, Apatow Productions) picked up a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture -- Comedy or Musical. Kirsten Wiig also picked up a best actress in a comedy nomination for Bridesmaids.
